Jimmy Carr’s I Literally Just Told You (to give it it’s official C4 name) is a show that was created by Richard Bacon and hosted by Jimmy (see here for details of Jimmy and Richard’s history).
If you’ve not seen it then the only way I can describe it would be bonkers, chaotic and “expect the unexpected”. It’s about how observant you can be, under the pressure of a live studio audience.

The Format
There are 4 contestants and there is an intro piece about each person, with a voiceover and animation, giving us facts about them. Once the question rounds start each person is asked to regurgitate a fact about someone else – but they could be asked something as obscure as what colour T shirt they were wearing in a picture. Or their pet’s name.
As the game progresses anything can happen. For example:
- Jimmy may seem to be just making conversation with one of them but may mention something that comes up as a question for someone else
- Jimmy may disappear off set, through a blue door, and a pre-filmed sequence may show him doing something random, such as opening a car boot to show Jedward trussed up inside
- A streaker may walk across the set
- They may fake an ad break – where Jimmy pretends to advertise something and then, after a real ad break, questions will be asked about the fictitious product
- Jimmy will tell the contestants that the lights are going out and that something is going to change, which they have to identify when the lights come back on
- Various celebrities may appear
Basically they can’t relax as although he says “we’ve given you the answers” they have no idea what may come up.
Some of the early rounds, where they are trying to build money up, they are given multiple choice questions. But even then, if gives an answer that is completely mad, this may come back as a question for someone else.

When someone has to be eliminated, they are asked to carry off their chair and sit in the audience.
Eventually they get down to 2 people and they then go head-to-head and ask each other questions about the show. They get to ask 3 questions each and it’s “winner takes all” as they get their own cash pot and also their opponents.
Richard Bacon
The show is the brainchild of Richard Bacon and, as Producer, he’s on set during filming and often gets dragged into questions (or is sometimes shown doubled up laughing).
