Jimmy took his first steps into comedy in late 1998 (see Bio, here, this Tut ‘n’ Shive post and then 1998-2001 lists some of the earliest venues played (here).
Browsing the British Newspaper Archives the Milton Keynes Citizen had an article that caught my eye.
Stephen K Amos had a gig at the Clock Inn on Sunday February 5th 2000. The Clock Inn was within Shenley Leisure Centre and has since been renamed The Sportsmens Rest. The post below has some throwback images of the venue.
Stephen’s support act was:
Jimmy Carr, a former psychotherapist who belies his middle-class tendencies with a rash of gags about the hilarities of modern living.
Intelligence paired with immaculate timing and a wit sharp enough to cut hecklers down to size make Jimmy a popular act on the London comedy scene.
I’m not sure how much he would have been paid (as the support) but tickets were £3 in advance or £4 on the door. And it didn’t looks a massive room!
Stephen and Jimmy went on to cross paths many more times, over the years, at Edinburgh, Montreal and various fundraisers. See posts here.
