Colour of Funny 1999

Jimmy’s first dabble in writing a comedic film script was back in 1999: The Colour of Funny

Writers:

  • Jimmy Carr
  • Nathan Cockerill (see his other credits here)
  • Barrie Hemsley (see his other credits here)

The Director and Producer roles were fulfilled by Barrie Hemsley and I was amused to see that, of the 2 reviews on IMDB, one gave 1/10 and the other 10/10.

One website described it as a “mockumentary style television pilot / short film” that was made at Pinewood Studios. The British Council UK Films Database has a brief entry, listing it under “shorts” (here) and they have the synopsis as:

Ronnie DeLorean is the reclusive Godfather of comedy. Only now can his story be told as an investigative film-maker reveals all.

I cannot find details of how many minutes duration it is, when it was released – nor anywhere to watch it. Oddly a lot websites that have data referring to it are from Poland, Czech Republic etc.

IMDB (and other sites) has the full cast and crew, which I don’t intend replicating. The people that I thought were of interest:

  • Craig Charles – Red Dwarf etc.
  • Paul Chowdhry – was gigging in the same pubs as Jimmy back in 2002 (here)
  • Jim Carr – Jimmy’s real-life father
  • Patrick Carr – Jimmy’s younger brother (see Fackham Hall)
  • Nina Conti – worked with Jimmy on the 2005 radio show, Flight of the Conchords (here)
  • Vicki Michelle – ‘Allo ‘Allo. Made a quest appearance on I Literally Just Told You (S2 Ep2 in 2022)
  • John Pohlhammer – does voiceover work on 8oo10c and 8oo10c Does Countdown
