For anyone that’s not aware (where have you been?) – let’s go back to the beginning and talk about all things Fackham Hall.
This is the main Fackham page with all the details and latest news. Pages can be found listed at the bottom of all posts – or you can use Search.
Meanwhile – let’s go to Fackham.
England….1931.
What is Fackham Hall?
Fackham Hall is the brainchild of Jimmy Carr (egged on by his younger brother, Patrick) and this blog is all about Jimmy, so you should know by now that he has the sense of humour of a 14 year old boy.
The movie is described as a kind of Downton Abbey comedy spoof, in the style of Airplane or Naked Gun (but with a Richard Curtis style love story running through it). It’s a love letter to the sort of the comedy that the writers adore.
If English is not your first language, then you may not have noticed that the title, if said in a kind of mockney accent, would sound something like “f**k ‘em all”. And so, we’re off to the races already, with a daft pun.
Plot synopsis
Eric Noone is a lovable pick-pocket and manages to get a job at an English Manor house, the home of Lord and Lady Davenport. The Davenports are trying to deal with the disaster of the “epic failure” of the wedding of their eldest daughter to her caddish cousin, Archibald.
Meanwhile, against the odds, Eric has managed to rise through the ranks – and has embarked on a forbidden romance with the younger daughter of the house, Rose Davenport. There is an unexpected murder and poor Eric runs out of luck, is framed…and has to try and prove his innocence.
The Idea
In the trailer released on November 7th 2025 (here) there is a flash of the film credits which say:
Based on an original idea by Jimmy Carr – Patrick Carr
Which equates to “the 2 brothers were bored during lockdown and decided to go off-piste and try their hand at scriptwriting”. Yes, this all started back in 2020.
The Writers
Jimmy Carr doesn’t really need an introduction – but, for background, he’s written: two books, has 25+ years of comedy tours under his belt, has co-written on numerous panel shows, featured in half a dozen films and worked in TV presenting / hosting / production etc. etc. – have a look at his Bio. This is his first time writing a film script.
Patrick Carr is Jimmy’s younger brother (see posts) and he’s been quietly building his resumé (see here and here) through both production and writing. He’s worked with Jimmy on a couple of BFQ episodes (as a writer) and now on this film.
The Dawson Brothers is, confusingly, the name of a trio of comedy writers: Steve and Andrew Dawson (who are actual brothers) and their childhood friend Tim Inman. They have a long list of credits (here) that they’ve been building on since 2007 and have written for shows by Lee Mack, Jonathan Ross, Rob Brydon etc. They probably first worked with Jimmy professionally around 2012, when they submitted material for 10 O’clock Live.
The Cast
There are a lot of recognisable faces in the cast – here are some of the main characters:
- Narrator (intro) – Hayley Mills
- Lord Davenport – Damian Lewis
- Lady Davenport – Katherine Waterston
- Archibald – Tom Felton
- Eric Noone – Ben Radcliffe
- Rose Davenport – Thomasin McKenzie
- Phyllis Davenport – Lizzie Hopley
- Vicar – Jimmy Carr
- Inspector Watt – Tom Goodman-Hill
- Bert Chester – Adam Woodward
- Fifi Valentine – Lily Knight
- Lionel Gritt – Alexander Butler
- Karl – Lee Boardman
- Gladys – Gemma Wardle
- Big Alan / prison guard – Charlie Rawes
- Poppy Davenport – Emma Laird
- Great Aunt Bonaparte – Sue Johnston
- Mrs McAllister – Anna Maxwell Martin
- Cyril (the Butler) – Tim McMullan
- Patricia – Laurie Ogden
- Mrs Kitchen – Paula Wharton
- Alexander (man servant) – Nathan McMullen
- Darvesh Khalid – Ramon Tikaram
- Bill (prisoner) – John Thomson
- Sister Jude – Karen Henthorn
- JRR Tolkien – Jason Done
- Prison Guard – Dean Fagan
- The Bechdel Sisters (twins) – Erin Austen
In relation to Nathan McMullen (re his role as “Alexander – Man servant”) – he’s the guy that is the kind of Koala Bear, wrapped around Lord Davenport and acting as his arms.
This “rogues gallery” (here) will give you an idea of some of the cast (if you’ve not already seen the trailers – which are all gathered on this post).
LYR 533 – that’s the registration plate on a red London bus, seen during the London film shoot. It turns out that it’s an RT3314 1951 London Transport bus that has been preserved and goes to events. The old girl is officially a cast member. Probably never been seen before with destinations or a route number quite like this.

Knowsley Hall / Croxteth Hall
Another star of the film is Fackham Hall itself – the impressive Knowsley Hall on Merseyside (see here) and some of the interior scenes were filmed in Croxteth Hall.
To read more about what was filmed at which site – see here. That story also details the various locations used for external shots / street scenes.
The Vicar
Jimmy plays a cameo role as a Vicar and Jim O’Hanlon said:
We actually had an Executive Producer who counted the number of jokes in an early cut and it came to a whopping 278 – everything from daft physical gags like the manservant who makes sure the Lord of the Manor doesn’t have to lift a finger (literally!), to the Vicar, played by Jimmy Carr, whose inability to follow basic punctuation provides some of the funniest sequences of the movie. So hopefully there’s something for everyone in there, whatever their taste in comedy
When he says “AN Executive Producer” I think he probably means Jimmy…

FYI – minor point – many Americans used the word “Priest” to describe this character. In this era, in England, we would have used Vicar, for what is essentially a Church of England role.
Production and Direction
- Director – Jim O’Hanlon
- Producer – Kris Thykier (married to Claudia Winkleman)
- Producer – Danny Perkins
- Producer – Mila Cottray
- Executive Producer – Jimmy Carr
- Executive Producer – Patrick Carr
- Executive Producer – Andrew Karpen
- Executive Producer – Kent Sanderson
- Executive Producer – Nick Shumaker
- Executive Producer – David Levine
For other roles relating to visual effect, camera, stunts, hair and make-up etc. – see IMDB.
The film is 97 minutes long.

Spinal Tap2 was released, in cinemas, on September 12th and X had a flurry of posts (couple in here) asking when they could watch…Fackham Hall?? It appears, out of the blue, that the red band trailer was shown before the movie, alongside one for the new Downton Abbey movie. It had all gone quiet and suddenly we’re on again.

2024 December 19th >>
It’s a wrap – but we’re not out of the woods yet. Stories emerged of a cash flow issue and The Daily Mail reported that, halfway through filming, backers had pulled out of the £5m movie. A new financier and distributors were found but, possibly due to it then being the Xmas / New Year period, it dragged on into January 2025
It was reported that Jimmy, Kris Thikier, Danny Perkins and Mila Cottray would take NO FEE.
2024 November 8th– casting update
Those early 2023 stories said that Hero Fiennes Tiffin would be taking the part of Eric Noone. Due to scheduling conflicts he had to drop out and was replaced by Ben Radcliffe. See Tellyvisions.

Fackham’s Fete…

In a story from Variety Jimmy was quoted:
Future generations of film students will mention ‘Fackham Hall’ in the same sentence as Merchant Ivory. And that sentence will be ‘Fackham Hall’ was an insult to Merchant Ivory.

2024 November 1st – production started
The Knowledge Online reported that production had started with film locations listed as including Leeds and Liverpool.
2023 September 7th
The first press stories started to appear:
Jimmy was quoted as saying:
The British film industry does two things very well. Period drama and comedy. Now we didn’t have time to write two movies, so we’ve had to mash the genres together… I’m just slightly worried that if you say Fackham Hall in a posh English accent it might be misconstrued, hopefully that won’t be a problem

2020
Yes, it took 5 long years to get to release!
During lockdowns Jimmy and his younger brother (Patrick) started talking about the idea of writing a Downton Abbey spoof…
