Top Gear filmed a special feature for Sports Relief in 2004 and it aired on BBC1 July 10th. Filmed at Rockingham Raceway.

Richard Hammond and James May took the presenter roles and Clarkson joined the group of Stars in Fast Cars.

In alpha order…

  • Jimmy Carr
  • Jeremy Clarkson
  • Alan Davies
  • Darren Jordon (news reader)
  • Jodie Kidd
  • Patrick Kielty

Before the first race they were put in grid order – based on how many times they had appeared in Heat magazine. I won’t spoil the surprise by revealing the outcomes of the events that followed.

The first event is a race around the track and Hammond names Jimmy “Jimmy Carrnage” and “the Carrminator”. His gear changing may have been noisy but he wasn’t the one to snap off his gear stick.

The second event is catapulting a car towards half a dozen cars that are stood on end – a form of ten pin bowling. Everyone had to choose an angle and velocity.

Jimmy’s turn is at around 12 minutes.

The third event is driving as quickly as possible around an obstacle race, while either Hammond or May (in the passenger seat) asked Mastermind questions.

“Jimmy Carrbreaker” has a go at around 18 minutes.

The fourth event is piggy back racing. Cars welded on top of each other with the person in the bottom car controlling pedals and gear stick and the person in the top car steering.

Alan was paired with Jimmy and chose to go on top.

The scores from all 4 challenges were added together – and the bickering ensued.
