Green Room w/Paul Provenza

In 2011 there was an American TV show (on the Showtime channel) called The Green Room with Paul Provenza. Provenza had hosted a live stage panel discussion at Montreal’s Just For Laughs (JFL) festival and the 2 series of this show were based on that format.

Jimmy featured in the final episode of the 2nd (and last) season of The Green Room. He’d been at JFL performing at Le Gesu (9 shows) and Place des Arts (4 appearances at Russell Peters’ galas) and finished up his Montreal trip with the recording of this show (July 30th at Mainline Theatre, 3997 Boulevard Saint-Laurent).

Hosted by Provenza, this episode aired 1st September 2011 and stars:

  • Jimmy Carr
  • Judah Friedlander
  • Chris Hardwick
  • Eddie Izzard
  • Tim Minchin

There is a clip here where Paul says “Jimmy has a book coming out”, which is really confusing as he seems to be referring to The Naked Jape (Only Joking in the US) which was released in 2006 (5 years before). Jimmy says the answer is a bit pretentious, Paul says he still wants to hear it – Tim doesn’t seem inclined to be that serious.

The full 27 minutes can be seen in this version here.

The clip below is from when Paul asks Jimmy “what’s the most offensive joke you’ve ever written”. It’s the now infamous mosquito joke but, as he starts to say in the dying seconds, it’s all just about switching the expectation, for the laugh, and he’s not trying to make a point.
