Instagram facts & figures

Update 05-08-2025 – there is a more recent post, with refreshed data, here.

I’ve been tracking some comedian data for a while and this analysis is all about Instagram. Who is giving away the most material? Who has gained the most Followers? Views data is not visible to the casual browser.

I last looked at this data on March 23 so this is a comparison from then to 24th May 2025.

Take into consideration:

  • As the American comics have a much bigger target home audience – their numbers are always far higher than those of the Brits.
  • Numbers are also impacted by the people that have Podcasts.
  • Some accounts are a combination of Stand up, TV appearances, Podcast episodes and personal clips / images. So don’t assume that this is all straight up “comedy” material.
  • The number of years since the account was set up will make a difference.
  • Some accounts are heavier on posting JUST images.
  • Jimmy’s Heckle Amnesty crowd work videos have had a massive impact (view Playlist here) and he gives away the most material.

There are top 3’s indicated for both countries:

  • Blue – Top 3 Americans
  • Gold – Top 3 Brits

This information is available to anyone (look at a channel’s “…more” function).

Null Points

First of all – I removed a few people, from the list, that have not uploaded any new content in a couple of months – just in case you wonder why they are absent.

  • Richard Ayoade
  • Jo Brand
  • Rich Hall
  • Reginald D Hunter

Data below is as viewed on 24th May 2025

Follower Numbers

Subs only increment 10k at a time so some could show as 0 growth and yet only be a few people short of moving up a notch. A couple of people I looked at from within Boomsocial, while I was in doing something else (which is why they have more specific numbers).

US only comics / Total Followers

Brit only comics / Total Followers. Not sure why Jack’s numbers have dropped by so much.

Interesting when we look at the growth, since 23/3. Jimmy is only behind Matt Rife and Theo Von.

Posts

The posts data is not as useful as, for example, the numbers of videos posted on YouTube.

For example, Katherine’s includes a lot of Podcast posts and some of her family / things that catch her eye. Nothing wrong with that, from her follower perspective, but I was trying to compare stand up work, with this analysis.

Very hard to do that when people are diversifying their accounts. Ditto Ricky – pics of his cat / new house / Vodka promos / tour promos / old TV clips – went back a couple of months and couldn’t find any stand up.

These are the Brits that have posted 50 or more posts.

And US only comics, also 50 or more posts.
