2013 and we are into Jimmy’s 9th appearance at Montreal’s Just For Laughs Festival (JFL), which ran from July 10th to 28th.
This year it looks like Jimmy didn’t take part in Britcom, which was hosted by honorary Brit (ex-pat from Montana) Rich Hall.
Wednesday, July 17th, The Nasty Show
Held at Club Soda The Nasty Show ran Thursday to Saturday with shows at 9.30 and 11.59pm. From the 25th to 27th is moved to Metropolis.
Not sure how many shows Jimmy performed in but reviews suggest a minimum of July 17th.
- Bobby Slayton (host)
- Jimmy Carr (top line)
- Robert Kelly
- Brad Williams
- Bridget Everett
- Big Jay Oakerson
- Hannibal Buress (only at Metropolis)
July 21st, Midnight Surprise
The Midnight Surprise Show was held at Théâtre Sainte-Catherine (as a part of Off-JFL) and featured:
- Mike Ward
- Jimmy Carr
- David Pryde
- Katie Crown
- Michael Kosta
- Jackie Kashian
- Big Jay Oakerson
July 24th, Comedy Central Africa interview
On the 24th Comedian Loyiso Gola interviewed Jimmy for Comedy Central Africa. Despite searching Google, X and Instagram I cannot find the origin of this image (to credit it).

Friday July 26th, JFL Awards
The annual JFL Awards show has to be held in the afternoon (obvious reasons) and is usually held at the Hyatt Hotel (as it was again this year).
The Montreal Gazette has a write up of the event (hosted by Jeff Ross) and Jimmy was there to present the award for Comedy Director of the Year to Edgar Wright.
Friday July 26th, ComedyPRO
The ComedyPRO event is described as “the industry’s biggest hub for professionals and creatives, bringing together comedy’s biggest players for an unmatched week of discovery, networking, and celebration.”
Jimmy attended on the 26th and listened to Colin Quinn make the keynote address.
Sat 27th, Sarah Silverman Gala
On the 27th there were apparently 2 runs of this gala and Jimmy appeared on the first show, at 8.15pm. Possibly just as well as the 2nd show apparently didn’t go so well. The first show line up was:
- K Trevor Wilson
- Brent Weinbach
- Jimmy Carr
- Tig Notaro
- Wil Anderson
- Kyle Kinane
- Kyle Dunnigan
Images of Jimmy on stage can be seen here and here.
26th or 27th iThentic Interview
Jimmy said he’d just seen Colin Quinn give his address (at the Awards show) so this interview was probably the same day or the 27th. Hannah Spear interviewing Jimmy who mentions that he’d seen Chappelle the night before. Repeats his “read the bible” joke and adds “he don’t need the competition”.
TV Shows
Just for Laughs: All Access filmed at the Festival and Jimmy featured in S5 Ep10 (broadcast in 2014).
The Montral Experience was a 60 minute special, hosted by Vanessa Matsui. Comedians were asked which local places and events the liked and the show included clips from Mike Ward, Jimmy Carr, Godfrey, Bob Marley, DeAnne Smith and Jessica Kirson.
Podcasts
While at JFL Jimmy did 2 podcasts, in front of audiences. Afraid I can’t recommend either of them as Jimmy is doing his best to make the funny but, deary me. The last guy even stepped all over his punchline when he said he “used to play triangle in a reggae band”.
The 1st one they repeatedly used the “joke” of daaaaaaaaddd (kid whining from the back of a car impression) to the point where it was surely a punch-able offence. Second one spent an inordinate amount of time discussing eating a Subway sandwich in a lobby.
I’m hoping quantities of alcohol were involved because, if not, there is no excuse for how painfully unfunny they were.
The only plus side to wasting 2 hour of my life was that, in ID10T, Jimmy said he was going to do the Sarah Silverman Gala – which lead me to search using her name – resulting in the info above.
- ID10T – Jimmy arrives at 17 min 24 (had been to see Chappelle)
- Todd Barry – Jimmy arrives at 41 minutes
Videos
Couple of other clips available from this year.
On the Pavement – a brief clip of Jimmy being accosted by “Comedian Anthony Engelbrecht” near some lifts, on his way upstairs. Jimmy playing it totally deadpan, gives him the advice of “read the bible for 3 hours a day”. With a punchline to camera “it won’t stop him – but it’ll slow him down”.
A short on the JFL channel.
