Montreal’s 2014 Just For Laughs (JFL) Festival ran from July 9th to 28th.
This was Jimmy’s 10th appearance, seemingly with his Gagging Order tour material (a couple of months prior to this he had started his new tour, Funny Business). He performed 3 nights at L’Astral (playing Mon, Wed and Fri, between the 21st and 25th). The ComicsComic reviewed a gig which I think was the 23rd.
ComedyPRO, 24th
The picture below (credited to Canadian Press via AP) showed up in a 2022 article, promoting Jimmy’s book. Judging by his hair and pictures that were tweeted at the time, I would say this is the 2014 ComedyPRO event, on the 24th July. Where the Keynote speech was given by Jim Norton.
Otherwise, 2014 JFL Jimmy left very little behind, in relation to an online footprint. This year Britcom was renamed Brit-ish and it was hosted by Noel Fielding, very little detail on it. The ComicsComic listed 40 Things I learned in 2014 at Montreal’s Just For Laughs and only referenced the L’Astral gigs (and Jimmy’s love of playing with hecklers).
Dom Irrera tweeted out, on the 24th, that he was “Sitting at the bar in Montreal with all this comedic talent god bless their parents 4 fucking them up low self esteem etc vivre Le Quebec”. I’m assuming the comics he tagged in were the ones he was sitting with and this included Chris D’Elia, David O’Doherty, Jimmy Carr, Don Rickles, Erik Griffin, Mike Birbiglia, Kathleen Madigan and Nikki Glaser.
Jimmy showed his love for Montreal on the 22nd by calling it “Summer Camp for Comedians”.
TV Shows
The only new TV, spawned by JFL 2014, (that I could find):
The Masters – ended up on Apple TV and episode 5 was 45 minutes of “great performances from Jimmy Carr at the world’s biggest comedy festival”.
There are a lot of JFL 2014 clips at iThentic – but can’t spot any featuring Jimmy.
