Poor Reviews
Individually there are some brilliant comedians on here – but collectively, it somehow didn’t work. As I mentioned in this post – “One review, on IMDB, said that 2 run throughs were shot in the same night and that the first show “felt like the comics wanted to be there”, was longer and was much better than the 2nd one. The reviewer said that they don’t know why the 2nd show was used – and that the version put out on Netflix was poorly edited.”
Added to that the audience laughter volume seemed too low. When a camera panned over the audience, they often seemed to be laughing more than it sounded like they were. Which gave the appearance that the jokes were not landing.
To add to the issues, from Jimmy’s perspective, his routine was about 7 minutes long and he did a trigger warning type intro about “unacceptable comedy” and then structured his routine so that, like his full-length gigs, the jokes got darker and darker.
The problem was only half of the routine was put out on an X post (to start with) and this trigger warning (that was followed by some tamer jokes) earned him a bashing from the “Twitter mob”.
As Netflix comedy specials go – this one was not very well put together and felt like it was rushed out to promote the JokeFest.
Bottom line – with all of the people on this special – if you are not familiar with their comedy, go and try any special other than this one.
