July 2nd 2005 and London’s Hyde Park hosted Live 8 London. The G8 summit was due to be held on July 6-8 and there were 11 simultaneous gigs, to raise awareness of poverty, AIDS and hunger in Africa (Live 8 was referencing the G8).

The concerts were in London, Johannesburg, Philadelphia, Moscow, Cornwall, Berlin, Rome, Tokyo, Barrie, Edinburgh and Paris and broadcast by 182 television networks and 2,000 radio stations.

Over 1,000 musicians performed to raise funds for such as MAKEpovertyHistory.

In the video below Jimmy mentions that The Killers (who he has gone on to be great friends with) were all dressed in white. Getty Images have some pics here. And the video carries on with Fearne Cotton speaking to Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol (Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid is another friend of Jimmy’s).
