July 2019 and Montreal hosted Just For Laughs (JFL) from the 10th to 28th. This was Jimmy’s 15th attendance at the festival.
At this stage Jimmy was still on his original Terribly Funny tour (which morphed into Terribly Funny 2.0 after the pandemic interruption).
This was a particularly busy festival so multiple posts were needed. Or perhaps content was just easier to find citations for, this time around.
22nd July
Went to see Beth Stelling support Brad Williams (mentioned on The Bonfire podcast, below). This was probably the date he arrived in Canada as he was in Wales on the 19th.
17th to 27th, The Nasty Show
At some point during The Nasty Show’s run at Mtelus Jimmy apparently made 5 surprise appearances, according to The Suburban. These appearances could only be between the 22nd and 27th.
Hosted by Bobby Lee.
23rd July, The Bonfire
Jimmy recorded Big Jay Oakerson’s show The Bonfire #570. See details here.
24th, July ComedyPRO
ComedyPRO is an annual kind of side event, at JFL, that allows the comedy industry to schmooze and workshop for 4 days. Held at what was then called the DoubleTree by Hilton Montreal.
This Instagram account has been deleted but this is Big Jay Oakerson interviewing Jimmy. The pages are now all deleted but, in ComedyPRO ads at the time, Jimmy was listed as a participant.
I’m not sure if this was part of the same on-stage discussion (as the above) but Stuart Goldsmith was in the Inspiration room moderating “A stage in every country – a guide to touring in Canada and abroad”, which Jimmy participated in.

24th July Midnight Surprise
According to The Suburban Jimmy was one of the stars to drop by unannounced, but doesn’t say whether it was more than once. The pirate video below says July 24th which must’ve made for a really hectic day – as he’d already been at ComedyPRO and was due at Club Soda for the Roast.
25th July, Hope and Cope
For the 4th time Jimmy spent the afternoon telling dark jokes to cancer patients at Montreal’s Hope & Cope Wellness Centre. Read more here.
24-27th July, Roastmasters Invitational
Jimmy once again featured in Jeff Ross’s Roast Battle JFL event. Held at Club Soda at midnight he was there, each night, as both a competitor and judge.
As there is a fair amount of text and images, I’ve posted the details here.
25th July, Comedy.by Blake
Jimmy was one of the stars performing a 10-minute slot in aid of Team Griffin Foundation. Read more here.
25th July, A Very Mark Forward Show
Apart from the post, below, can find no further information on this.
- Aisha Brown
- Jimmy Carr
- K Trevor Wilson
- Mike Carrozza
26th July – JFL Awards
The Grand Salon at the Double Tree by Hilton was the venue for the JFL awards and Jimmy attended to present an award to his old friend Jim Jefferies.
- Kevin Hart – Generation award
- Jim Jefferies – Comedian of the Year
- Hasan Minhaj – Breakout Comedy Star of the Year
- Amanda Seles – Rising Comedy Star of the Year
As a part of his presentation speech Jimmy said:
This is a huge test of my acting ability, to present an award to a fellow stand-up comedian and pretend to be happy for him.
In Australia they will call a mate “cunt” and a cunt “mate”. Jim’s a good mate…
Jim has the stage persona of a heavy drinker – but in real life he’s an alcoholic. I’m not sure Jim’s a real stand-up comedian. The thing all of us in this room have in common is that we write material, but for Jim shit just happens.
The below is Jimmy on the awards show red carpet. Posted originally by the JFL Facebook account I cannot trace the image nor the copyright owner now. Please let me know if this is your photograph.

26-27th, Brit-ish

- Fin Taylor
- Flo & Joan
