Just The Tonic was the name of a Nottingham comedy club and, back in the day it regularly played host to Johnny Vegas, Ed Byrne, Daniel Kitson and Ross Noble (and was where Ricky Gervais performed his first stand up).
In 2006 (March 19th) a fundraiser was organised (by Ricky) as the venue was going to be sold, leaving the club homeless. The story of how it came about (and other memories of the comedians that performed there) are in this article.
The gig, at London’s Dominion Theatre, featured (in order of appearance):
- John Fothergill (compere)
- Darrell Martin (started Just The Tonic in 1994)
- Jimmy Carr
- Adam Bloom (Robin Ince)
- Ricky Gervais
- Milton Johns
- Stephen Carling
- Tim Vine
- Stewart Lee
Everyone gave their time for free and the evening apparently raised £80,000 – but the club ended up having to move anyway and they went to Leicester Square Theatre.
