Selly Oak was a military hospital (for personnel injured in Operations) in Birmingham, which closed in October 2011.
The then HRH The Prince of Wales (King Charles III) was patron of The British Forces Foundation (BFF) and he suggested a show to thank the hospital staff for their work.
The BFF organised a show on October 9th 2009, featuring:
- Jim Davidson OBE (Charity Founder and Trustee)
- Rory Bremner
- Rick Wakeman
- Jimmy Carr – the surprise guest of the evening
He’s using a clipboard with joke prompts as he was just switching from his Joke Technician tour to Rapier Wit.
Story is here. As mentioned before – information is disappearing from the internet and so the image strip below is copyright the BFF. They are from this page and I’m including this screenshot as they have deleted lots of images already (these thumbnails no longer open the actual pictures).

For details of Jimmy’s support of the military (in both the UK and US) see here.
