The Museum of Curiosity was a BBC Radio4 (R4) show created in 2008 by John Lloyd (the creator of QI, Blackadder and Spitting Image, amongst others).
John (the host) acts as the head of a fictional museum and the guests chose something to donate it. The museum’s mission statement is to hold everything curious in the universe, with the audio only format giving them the opportunity to choose anything at all.
Each new series someone takes the role of co-host (the curator of the museum) and for S4 (or Gallery4 as its referred to) it was Dave Gorman.
On October 3rd 2011 Dave had 3 guests that were attempting, during Meeting 19, to fill Gallery4. The guests / donations were:
- Francesca Stavrakopoulou (Theologian) donated God (the one that she does not believe in)
- Alex Bellos (Journalist & Mathematician) donated a hand cranked calculator
- Jimmy Carr (stand-up comedian) donated a book of all the jokes in the world
The BBC have removed all the online copies but it’s still available on Amazon, as an audiobook. S1 to 4 are here.
S2, curated by Sean Lock, is on YT here.
In May 2025 Comedy.co.uk wrote that, after 17 years and 106 episodes, the Museum would be no more.
