Comic Relief 2011 (UK charity fundraiser) and Walkers Crisps came up with a fund-raising idea. Four comedians were given crisp flavours, punning on their names, and were in competition to see who could sell the most packets by the time Red Nose Day rolled around.
Alamy have pictures from the event – here.
Walkers Clash of The Comics
- Stephen Fry – Stephen Fry Up
- Jimmy Carr – Jimmy con Carrne
- Frank Skinner – Frank Roast Dinner
- Al Murray – Steak & Al Pie
I think the name of Al’s flavour needed more work.
There was an extra twist in that the 3 losers were going to be waxed by Denise van Outen.
Over £1m was raised by this and a giant Jimmy head was made with 3d scanners (see here for how they did it). Jimmy mentions in one of the clips below that people were tweeting to say they’d seen his head being driven down the motorway and, over the years, it’s moved around the country quite a bit.
In 2018 it was used as a bar for Knockengorroch World Ceilidh site, having previously had the same use at the Wickerman Festival (see the Daily Record).
The videos below are all only a minute or two but worth watching. And they are all dipping in and out of each other’s films and messing around.
The final one is Denise applying (and enjoying ripping off) the wax to 3 of them…
