We lost the great Sir Terry Wogan on January 31st 2016 (aged 77) and there was a thanksgiving memorial service for him on September 27th at Westminster Abbey. Details of the service can be seen here, including a video of a tribute reading from Chris Evans.
- Katie Melua sang The Closest Thing to Crazy
- Peter Gabriel sang That’ll Do
The song Peter sang was from the film Babe: Pig in the City and had been a Desert Island Discs choice of Terrys.
Apart from family members (his widow, Helen, sons Mark and Alan etc.) the guests included friends and colleagues from his long career in Radio and TV.
It was broadcast live on BBC Radio 2 (R2) and parts of it were aired on BBC1 as a part of a “50 Years at the BBC” special.
Pictures of all arrivals – here.
There’s a 5 minute video – here – featuring Jimmy Carr, Chris Tarrant, Jo Whiley and Chris Evans being interviewed, for ITV news, outside the Abbey.
Jimmy’s friendship / professional history with Terry and his son Mark is tagged as Wogan Family.
