On July 3rd Jimmy was at Mad//Fest 2025 (see more here).

This was day 3 of the “UK’s biggest, boldest and most distinctive marketing/advertising festival” and Jimmy’s chat, with Rory Sutherland, was advertised as 12.35pm to 1.15pm.

In this wrap-up article Mediashotz said:

The queue to catch Jimmy Carr on the Hex Stage went through almost the entirety of Old Truman Brewery, but for those that missed his session it will be posted on YouTube.

It’s not appeared on YouTube yet (MadFest channel here) but I’ll keep an eye out for it (videos are appearing daily). **Update 15-8-2025 – a LOT of videos are now posted but still nothing from this presentation. Round up of some personal images etc. – here.

There is a LinkedIn post (here) with a picture of Jimmy / Rory on stage.

It’s mentioned, in this LinkedIn post, that Jimmy had said that “YouTube stole BBC and ITVs lunches whilst they weren’t looking”. This is something he’s touched on elsewhere – that YouTube quietly became the biggest TV channel in the world while terrestrial TV slept.

Marketing Beat Overview

Marketing Beat said attendees were:

…treated to a frank and entertaining discussion on the importance of creativity in both advertising and comedy.

Featuring two of the biggest names from their respective fields, the conversational-style talk also dealt with the crucial role that psychology plays in finding success for both advertisers and comedians.

Reflecting on his time as an advertising exec at Shell during his early, pre-comedy career, Carr noted the many similarities between comedy and advertising and reflected on how the use of humour in ads has declined by a surprising 37% over the last 20 years according to Kantar figures.
