The Late Late Show (RTE1) was hosted by Pat Kenny from 1999-2009. Jimmy guested in 2008 (S46 Ep2) and it was recorded live and broadcast in Ireland on September 12th.

At the time Jimmy was on his Joke Technician tour and playing 4 nights at Dublin’s 3Olympia Theatre from September 11th to 14th.

According to Plex the guests were:

  • Michael Gambon
  • Michael Colgan
  • Jimmy Carr
  • Trinny and Susannah
  • Pat Hickey
  • Rick Stein
  • Carol Thatcher
  • Mick Flannery
  • Yulia Pikhtina
  • Lisa Hannigan

They also indicate that Jimmy was interviewed (with the 2 Michaels – see below) and had performed.

Jimmy was there promoting his In Concert DVD but, when Pat tried to make a joke about “it’s been crap having you on” he gets the response of “I’d better not start going on about your neighbours and land”.

This referenced a story about a land dispute between Pat and his neighbour. It was settled (see here) when he bought the plot for 2million Euros.

In a 2021 interview with The Independent Jimmy said:

Literally, two minutes before I walked on I said to a producer, ‘Where’s the dig, where’s the angle?’ And he went, ‘Oh, there’s this property thing. You shouldn’t mention that.’ I went, ‘Great.’

Carr winks at me, the satisfaction of that 2008 night’s mischief-making on The Late Late still ringing around his comic intellect. He had ribbed Kenny on national prime-time RTÉ television about the presenter’s acrimonious and well-publicised land dispute with a neighbour.

There follows a Josef Fritzl joke as Jimmy heckles Pat while he tries to phone someone up (live on air) as a part of an Austrian holiday competition.

A short and wobbly video – but well worth 3 minutes of your time

The video below was uploaded 2014 – but it’s def the 2008 show.

The stand-up part must’ve been online at some point as I have a still from it. Copyright is RTE One.
