I Love the 1980s, 2001

Back in 2001 there was a BBC series (here) called I Love the 1980s. It was 10 x 90-minute shows (one for each year) that had a mix of music and TV with talking heads, from all areas of Showbiz, enthusing about that particular year.

November 2001 this Getreading article said Jimmy “…is an interviewee on BBC1’s I Love The 80s”. Only problem is – I can find ZERO evidence to support that statement.

The crowd source type public databases are not always the most reliable but, in this example, none of them show him as a cast member (see IMDB and FamousFix, which has quite a comprehensive list). Although comedians such as Peter Kay, Gina Yashere and Johnny Vegas were contributors.

Two different YouTube channels have uploaded copies of the shows (from VHS tapes) and a volunteer has skimmed through them for me and…nothing to see.

I also checked the end of half a dozen of the videos and they don’t list contributors of “additional material”, so another dead end.

I’m not sure where that article’s information came from and, while it’s possible that he recorded some clips, there is nothing in the finished product.

It’s going to have to be fact checked as “never happened”.

If you want to have a wallow in nostalgia – the videos are spread across the channels below, alongside some from the follow-on series “I Love the 1990s”.
