In 2023 Jimmy did his last Australia / New Zealand gigs as a part of his Terribly Funny 2.0 tour. I say “last” as in “most recent” as our cousins down under will get a chance to see him again in 2026 (here) for Laughs Funny.
Before I launch into the Wollongong story – there are a couple of stunning pictures on this Australian Ulagroup page. It’s a portfolio showcase for the screens that they provided for his shows and they were taken in Wollongoong.
Jimmy was back and forth, to Aus, to perform gigs during February, March, April and into the first week of May. 87 shows and around 250,000 tickets sold.
Wollongong is a coastal city that lies South of Sydney and, having played the WIN Entertainment Centre (6,000 capacity) in February, he was back for a 2nd show on March 4th.
This story in the Illawarra Mercury tells how one of the texts sent in said:
Jimmy, My mum Nina Morgan is here tonight in Fluro yellow, she’s tetraplegic (very disabled). Meeting you or getting a signed ticket is on her bucket list! Even a heckle wouldn’t hurt. Cheers, Jess Morgan
According to her Instagram account she had a freak accident in 2012 and broke her neck.
Jimmy went to find her in the crowd and, if you look in the link above there is a picture showing how far he had to climb up the tiers.
She’s posted some lovely pictures and captioned them:
I had the wonderful experience of meeting Jimmy Carr the saucy satirical tongued super comedy star. I’m hoping to find the footage on YouTube soon cause my brain froze and I said Hi, I’m from Bristol instead of the funny thing I thought about before he actually came up to me, I was on the huge screens with around 5,000 people looking at me and cheering
