New York, December 2^nd was the official premiere (see here) and then a number of US theatres had preview showings on the 3^rd. The total number of venues, showing the film, now stands at 1,122 (see here).

Now that it’s finally getting to be seen (by some lucky people) what do the reviews look like?

I mostly ignore film critics as I don’t see how someone else’s opinion on what’s funny or not will have any bearing on whether I would like it. We all have different senses of humour and, reading a lot of the reviews, there are some critics who clearly completely MISSED a lot of the more highbrow jokes and British references and focussed on the more toilet humour as being not to their taste.

How many people, for example, would understand the reference to the Bechdel Sisters? If you don’t know what I’m referring to – see here.

I saw one movie site where someone said that, in their Minnesota viewing, some people had walked out. Well, I would think that’s to be expected in America. There are jokes poking fun at religion and they tend to go down a lot better in the UK than over the pond.

Otherwise – I’ve scanned through the reviews that have been posted so far and they are all positive. The odd critique here and there – but it looks like it is going down well.
