In 2019 C5 broadcast a 4-part series called Utterly Outrageous Comedy. Narrated by Jennifer Saunders clips from Jimmy’s old DVDs featured.
- Ep 1 / Sex – broadcast June 9th 2019 (here)
- Ep 2 / Celebrity & Politics – broadcast June 30th 2019 (here)
- Ep 3 / Religion & Death – broadcast July 7th 2019 (here)
The episodes were 60 minutes each and looked at “shocking, controversial comedy from the last 50 years”.
It’s described as a documentary series – but I think that is overstating it a bit. You can’t cover 50 years in 4 hours and so it’s just a lot of clips with some talking heads commenting in between.
British Comedy Guide notes that “After this episode aired, the rest of the series was pulled and re-edited into two-hour, back-to-back episode blocks. Sex was rebroadcast as the latter half of the final episode, after new first half Women.”
I would add to that that when I watched it the name of the first episode (as displayed on the TV) was:
You Can’t Say That…Outrageous Comedy
BCG also describe it on here as a “six-part series” and use the “You Can’t Say That! Outrageous Comedy” title. Note the slight difference in punctuation to what was on my TV screen. C5 appears to have tinkered with the name / series format quite a bit, even after broadcasting the first one.
I watched 2 of the series but have no idea (apart from Ep1) what Ep2 comprised as I didn’t know, at the time, it had been reformatted.
It appears to still be available on Sky, Plex etc. and I’d add that none of the resources online list Jimmy’s material being used, partly because this type of show always features brief clips of lots of people and it’s hard to give a site like IMDB the “proof” of someone’s inclusion.
It’s possible even Jimmy doesn’t know that he appeared, such is the nature of these shows.
But here’s a still from Ep1.
