February 23^rd 2004 was the evening of the Chortle Awards, held at Ealing Studios in West London (here).

Barry Cryer was supposed to host the event but had transport problems and so Jimmy Carr stood in. Chortle described the show as “brilliantly hosted” (here) and he would go on to host it again in 2005 (here).

The Chortle list of Winners and Nominees (here) is a bit scrunched up – so the Brit Comedy Guide page is an easier read (here). Ignore the 2020 date for results announced – must be a typo.

Jimmy wasn’t featured in the list this year – but his manager (Hannah Chambers) won Best Contribution by a Non-Performer.
