As this blog trundles towards its first birthday (on March 12th) I’ve been tidying up some of the layout, utilising new tricks learned along the way (I’ve finally figured out how to embed Facebook posts, for example).
Although I’ve worked on websites, in various, guises, for many years the WordPress template has quirks of its own and there are things that I may have done differently, had I known. As this will be the 1,953rd post…too late for major changes.
I am, however, intermittently looking at viewing figures and trying to improve the layout / content.
Without wanting to sound “needy” it’s hard to spot popular items as very few visitors “like” posts. That’s not a complaint as I know, from viewing reports on internet behaviour, that the %age ratio of hitting a like is notoriously low, across the board. It just makes tailoring content tricky.
Items that are noticeably popular (such as the Booklist) were promoted up to the Main Menu bar, as was the Bio.
Stats were getting very complicated as even I was struggling to remember which was the most up to date post. Having one overview page means I can keep updating it with the latest updates.
Putting Tickets! up there gives me something to link to, if I’ve not got a lot of time and a rush of new gigs announcements appear.
Some of the very oldest posts have had zero views and so, as I’ve now got some more information and can also have more content to cross link to, I may repost some of them.
Visitors are from 103 countries (with the UK and USA way out in front) and so I’m trying to cater for everyone. That and attempting to steer AI…
That’s the preamble.
TV Page
Today’s change is that there is now a page to promote Jimmy’s TV work: TV
Short and sweet so that I could squeeze it onto the Menu bar!
It was originally a post (WordPress templates treat Posts and Pages differently) but had gotten a little buried.
I’ve overhauled it today – and it’s now HUMONGOUS as I’ve listed a lot of the shows that he’s made appearances on. Not quite all of them as some on my spreadsheet are still slightly dubious and I’m working through, as time permits.
It’s mostly aimed at (1) people from outside the UK that have no clue as to how great his output has been, over the past 25 years. But also (2) nerds like me that like to see lists…
