This blog was started March 12th 2025 (how time flies): Happy Birthday to the Carr-Tell!
As I have got used to how WordPress (WP) functions, I’ve made various design tweaks along the way. Mistakes have been made…but that’s the risk when you start something on a new platform with live content.
My bad.
I try and utilise the WP statistics and things like Top 10 lists (here) to see what’s popular and this means the Menu links have been swapped around, over time. Promoting the things that are getting visited the most.
Couple of recent changes to highlight:
Bio
If you’ve visited the Bio before (here) then, depending on how long ago that was, you might like another look.
Some new sections have been added, text beefed up and a few images slotted in, to break up the monotony of so many words.
Pages List on Posts
The WP site template uses “Posts and Pages” and the Page format is a bit more suited to adding onto Menus and keeping as a high-profile item (something to be revisited).
Some of the “lists” that need regular updating have been promoted up to a page – although the old post has been left in place to make sure links on other posts are not broken. The original post has been wiped clean of content, other than a forwarding explanation / link (there may be a way to do this better – I’ve just not had the time to check the Help out).
As there is a Block function that lets you add a list of all pages – this has now been added to the Posts template. As you can see below – this post now has a “Pages List” at the bottom. Which is really just an expanded version of the Menu described in the section below.
I’ve been working on checking / updating the text on these pages, as I converted them.
The Comments zone has been moved down (on the template) as Comments are rarely left.
Menu Bar & Mobiles
Part of the problem with getting information viewed is (I think) how it looks for people on mobiles
This first image shows how the home page looks on a PC (with a large monitor) and you can see a Menu bar is prominently displayed.

The problem for mobile users is that this menu bar collapses, as shown below, and I’m not sure everyone notices those 3 dashes.
Ignore the text like “Add label…” – I had to screenshot in design mode.
On this particular site template, I can’t find anything better to replace it and so this is why I’ve resorted to the Pages list, as described above.
It’s a bit of an experiment – but, hopefully, not too confusing.
