Anyone that is familiar with the posts linked in the Social Accounts section (on the Stats page, here) will know that, periodically, I have a look at my short list of 29 comedians and analyse their social media following numbers.
For the background on how I whittled my list down to 29 and some of the anomalies that I’ve tried to account for – see the Reporting page, here.
I’ve not done a full update, across all accounts (it’s only a month since the last one) but was having a poke around a few things, looking at the impact of Digital ID Verification. Which seems to be rolling out across the whole planet.
Researching this blog has been getting more and more time consuming lately, due to:
- the number of sites that are disappearing behind paywalls
- the misinformation that AI keeps offering up
- the enforcement of age verification rules
The latter point has started to rear it’s head this past week or so. Trying to read a Reddit post, for example, on Jimmy’s Official Subreddit (here) was impossible – unless I went through their app and verified my age. That’s a new one and even using a VPN didn’t help.
For now, I’m just refusing and will have to work around it. I’m not giving out personal data for a place that, mostly, has the same posts as other of his social media platforms.
But it does show that Jimmy’s content is being classed as “for over 18s” (by Reddit).
Whether that will cause issues on other platforms, I’ve not encountered yet.
What a more widespread application of this classification could potentially impact is his team’s communication strategy, for tour details. As is ever the case – there are always unexpected complications with a “blanket” ban on something.
By which I mean that I doubt I’m the only person that will refuse to hand over “ID to view”, meaning an unknown quantity of over 18s will vanish.
Using a Mailing List just got REALLY important (see here, if you wish to sign up).
It’s already bad enough that the updates are having to be spread over X, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, TikTok and, for major tour updates, YouTube.
X / Twitter Subscribers
So, down to business.
To recap – back in October 2025 the cumulative subs numbers, for the 29 accounts, had risen by 605,035. Then X started to purge bots and old accounts and millions have disappeared in the period since.
What had started off at 115,996,523 has now dropped to 108,935,817
Over 7 million accounts nuked.
This time, when comparing February 22nd to March 26th, the losses, across the board, are -427,048
Only 4 comics are showing a positive growth – Rogan, Carr, Burr and Rife. Which is why the variance column only has 1 Brit coloured Gold. It’s not exactly a “top 3” if everyone else is haemorrhaging subs.
This may be the green shoots of Jimmy’s account recovering its losses as it had gained 127 between December 31st and February 23rd (after losing almost 700k previously).
Not that it makes a massive difference as I’m not sure X pays out that much and the days when he had lots of engagement with them are long gone.
As he said in his book (and I’ll have to paraphrase) “any day I want to be called a c**t, I just go on X”.

Threads
Just while I’m in stats mode.
On the Stats page (here) there is a link to report that sums up the followers / subscribers from X, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.
I did ponder adding in Threads, when I did last month’s summation and so have had a quick poke around this morning.
Of the 29 usual suspects only 10 have Threads accounts, meaning I won’t be bothering to include it, as it will distort everyone else’s data.
The ones that are rounded numbers – the counters that I could find wouldn’t display those accounts, so I had to go by the numbers at the top of the account.
