Beano 75th anniv. cover 2013

In 2013 the Beano (a children’s comic that started in 1938) was 75 years old and produced a special edition, tied in to the British Comedy Awards (see here). Apparently it is still in production (here).

The “proper” annual had its usual cover – but 1,000 copies were made with a dust jacket that starred British comedians (drawn in the Beano style) to be given to guests at the awards ceremony.

The only decent image of the full cover is on Comedy.co.uk (BCG) and you need to imagine it folded in half (meaning Jimmy was on the back of the dust jacket).

Some of the caricatures are easily recognisable…some not so much.

The BCG have pulled out 20 faces for you to try and put a name to them. I only got 17 and the article seems to ignore the 2 Newcastle shirted figures, bottom left, which I assume is intended to be Ant and Dec?

Jimmy didn’t attend the awards – wonder if he ever got hold of a souvenir copy?
