The We Might Be Drunk latest episode is Anthony Jeselnik. The hosts are Mark Normand (who is more hungover than usual) and Sam Morril and Jimmy has previously appeared on this podcast in 2023 (see here).
Jimmy gets talked about for a good 5+ minutes of this chat.
At 12 min 50 AJ talks about how Jimmy helped him with the ordering of a routine (where to site the darkest jokes) and how he showed generosity in letting him use the tip.
The main mentions start around 1 hour 16 – the headlines of the discussion are:
First of all, Mark mentions supporting Jimmy at Carnegie Hall. This gig was November 9th 2023 (here) and that post has a longer explanation of Mark’s mention, on this pod, of Louis CK being on the front row.
They go on to discuss Jimmy as being top notch (MN), almost like a mentor and tries to be as prolific as him, but he’s so far ahead (AJ).
Jeselnik says the last time he heard from Jimmy was when he was having problems, after the release of His Dark Material (here) which would have been 2022.
They go on to discuss how he’s “escaped through the vent on many a cancellation” and mention “tax evasion”. Wish these people would learn the difference….as it was tax AVOIDance. Evasion comes with jail time… see post on K2 (here).
Jimmy’s joke, that AJ referenced about soldiers, was from 2009 (here).
MN tells a story about appearing with Jimmy at the Comedy Cellar, which was probably 2018 (here). And him and Sam go on to talk about how wise some of Jimmy’s crowd work clips are.
AJ tells a story about how supportive Jimmy was when he was alone, in London. He had taken him to his London home (with Jim Jefferies) and then it sounded like Jeselnik gave away WAY too much detail about Jimmy’s home, at his gig that night. I’ll let you listen to how he tells it for yourself.
I love hearing comedians telling stories but, when I listen to pods like this, it amazes me that these guys are struggling to come up with a full hour of new material. “Jimmy fans” are really spoilt with how prolific he is.
And these guys are younger than he is and already talking about feeling burnt out, when their output isn’t HALF of Mr Carr’s.
They should see his 2025 End of Year Report Card (here).
