December 20th 2001 was a gig at Huddersfield’s Lawrence Batley Theatre. A gorgeous venue that Jimmy had performed in before (see here).
The 8.30pm show on this date was £8.50 (or £7.50 if you paid in advance) and “The Comedy Cellar presents”:
- Jimmy Carr
- Micky Flanagan
Considering where the two of them ended up – that’s one heck of a bargain for £8.50. The earliest date that I have, for them both appearing at the same venue is in 1999 (see here).
The ads placed at the time had Jimmy’s name first and in a font that was twice the size of Micky’s name. Sometimes size matters!
Another nice piece of British comedy history.
Background
At this stage of his career Jimmy had been performing above pubs and “going on stage after strippers” (his words) so there was no tour name.
He was now starting to get more regular bookings and was appearing more in dedicated comedy clubs and slightly bigger rooms.
There is a page (here) about the UK Comedy Circuit.
