Meet The Richardsons was a comedy drama with Jon Richardson and then wife Lucy Beaumont (they’ve since divorced) playing exaggerated versions of themselves.

The mockumentary style show had 5 seasons between 2020-4 (on U&Dave) and was written by Lucy Beaumont and Tim Reid.

Despite not being listed in show credits anywhere, Jimmy featured quite a lot, via clips from 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, 8 Out of 10 Cats and footage of him heading into Jonathan Ross’s house.

It seems a little odd, considering the amount of screen time he got (across the first two series and a brief appearance in S3) and how many times he was mentioned.

Cats Countdown is made by Zeppotron and the clips indicated that they were included with their blessing.

Note – when S1 first started some people actually thought it was just a “fly on the wall” reality TV show.

In the intro of each S1 and S2 episode there is a brief clip from Cats Countdown, while talking about shows that Jon appears in. The clip shown is Jimmy’s “skip and turn” entrance on the 2013 S3 Ep4 Cats Countdown recording.

S1 Ep1

At one point Lucy asks why she can’t be on Cats Countdown and Jon says it’s not down to him to cast who is on it – and, if it were, he wouldn’t have Sean and Jimmy on.

S1 Ep2

Lucy tells Jon he’s not normal because, unlike most men on Countdown, he doesn’t fancy Rachel Riley. They cut to a clip that is actually from 8 Out of 10 Cats – where Jimmy asks Jon to turn to Rachel and pay her a compliment and he fluffs it and gets embarrassed.

Jimmy features again when Jon and Lucy are sitting on their sofa, watching Cats Countdown, with Lucy trying to persuade Jon that she should get to appear on the show.

Lucy later goes to where the Cats Countdown show is being filmed and thinks she’s caught her husband drinking in a bar with Susie Dent…until Jack Dee rejoins Jon / Susie, with their drinks.

S1 Ep4

This one features Jonathan Ross’s annual Hallowe’en party and some footage is shown of Jimmy and Karoline arriving. The onscreen information says it is 2019 but it is actually the 2018 party (here).

S1 Ep5

This episode features footage from 8 Out of 10 Cats – with Rob Beckett trying to get a full pizza slice in his mouth and then footage from the episode where Jimmy is teasing Jon about being runner up in Heat magazine’s weird crush.

S1 Ep6

Last episode in S1 and, while stuck in traffic, a siren is heading and Jon says “that’s how Jimmy Carr gets to his gigs”.

Another Cats Countdown episode is woven into a storyline with Johnny Vegas. A clip from S6 Ep4 (2014) is shown and, in a bit about Lucy writing a sitcom, Jon says Johnny is there because he knows him from Countdown.

Meet The Richardson’s at Christmas

Two Christmas themed episodes were shown in December 2020 (here) and Jimmy featured in both.

The first MTR episode is the Xmas special from 2019, with Lucy finally getting to appear on the show.

In Ep2 Lucy puts on a panto for Elsie and has a Punch and Judy cabinet with a puppet wearing a jacket that is similar to the below (this Cats Countdown clip shown).

The puppet is called Jimmy Buttons and Jon makes an attempt at Jimmy’s laugh (video clip here).

S2 Ep1

In this episode Jimmy features in several Cats Countdown clips from 2016 S11 Ep7 (with Cariad Lloyd and Russell Howard).

S2 Ep2

Once again, more Cats Countdown clips and, while looking for a new school for daughter Elsie, the teacher fawns over Jon and says “Jimmy is so mean to you”.

S2 Ep4

This episode is about Jon / Lucy moving to London and references are made about him not being manly enough.

Rob Beckett and Russell Howard appear, slagging Jon off, and the Cats Countdown clips featured are from S7 Ep5 (2015) with Jimmy asking Jon if the waitress has to lift him out of that little seat in the restaurant.

Only one clip in this episode, from Cats Countdown S5 Christmas Special 2014.

This one features Jimmy clips from 3 different Cats Countdown shows.

This final episode of S2 is a one-off of “unseen footage” and Jimmy features in Cats Countdown clips.
