You may need to watch this 15 second clip a couple of times to catch the first couple of seconds. What had caught my eye was how he settled himself and took a breath before starting to speak.
I’ve been front and centre at his gigs a few times and have found that I’ve been kind of mesmerised by how he conducts the crowd. Apart from when he can’t hear a heckler he mostly tends to stand in the middle of the stage and, when you’re that close, you get to analyse the performance aspect of the show.
Which sounds kind of weird – but, as someone who has always hated having to speak in public, I am fascinated by anyone that can do it well. And this particular comedian is at the top of his game.
And it kind of feeds into the whole thing of his upcoming release of On Jokes, the forthcoming book to help would be comedians with writing and performing comedy.
