In November 2020 a 5-part series was aired by Showtime called “The Comedy Store” and the five episodes were titled:

1. I Saw You Last Night on the Tonight Show
2. The Comedy Strike
3. The Wild Bunch
4. Joe Rogan Returns
5. The Birth of a Bit

A documentary that looked at the history of the original LA Comedy Store it featured a huge number of comedians that felt that they owed the start of the careers to getting started at The Store. Talking about what it was like to play there, how you had to impress Mitzi Shore and how Roast Battle got started from an argument in the car park.

Written and Directed by Mike Binder it got some lukewarm reviews (IndieWire gave it a C) – but I loved it and watched them all at least twice (it was picked up by Sky a few years ago).

This playlist contains a number of teaser clips.

The long list of comics interviewed included Jimy Carrey, Bill Burr, Whitney Cummings, Jay Leno, David Letterman, Neal Brennan, Louis C.K., Iliza Schlesinger, Tom Segura, Sebastian Maniscalco, Chris Rock, Nikki Glaser, Theo Von…and (the only Brit involved, as far as I recall) – Jimmy Carr. The man with his name on the Wall of Fame.

His piece was filmed on the roof of the building and he’d played there (more than once from what I can tell) between June 6^th and 8^th 2019.

This 8^th June X post, from The Comedy Store official account, has someone walking around the building and, at 16 seconds, you can see Jimmy chatting in a corridor – wearing the same shirt/ suit as above. So, it’s quite likely that the interview segment for the documentary was filmed that same day.
