Ross Hutchins, a British Davis Cup player, had been diagnosed with Hodgkins’s lymphoma and was being treated at The Royal Marsden, a world leading cancer centre.
On Sunday June 16th 2013, at the end of Queens tournament, there were a couple of fund-raising events.
First Andy Murray and Tom Henman played doubles against Ivan Lendl and Tomas Berdych (see the first part of the highlight video, below). Then the fun started:
- Jimmy Carr
- Jonathan Ross
- Boris Johnson (then Mayor of London)
- Richard Branson
- Eddie Redmayne
- Michael McIntyre
This picture has them named, if anyone doesn’t know all of the players.
Led out by Jonathan (carrying a tray of Pimms) they played doubles with Murray and Henman.
Jimmy and Jonathan often played tennis together, back then (possibly still do – although Jimmy looks a lot fitter than JR).
Getty Images have 147 images from the event and everyone clearly had a ball. I watched the full length broadcast at the time but it looks like this highlight clip is all that is left online.
