In 2009 Jimmy was on his Joke Technician tour and then was off to Canada for his 5^th attendance at Montreal’s Just for Laughs (JFL).

This year’s festival is going to take some unpicking as we have the 3^rd Toronto JFL slightly overlapping JFL Montreal and some of the comedians hopping back and forth (a 75-minute flight).

• Toronto JFL – July 15^th to 19^th
• Montreal JFL – July 16^th to 26^th

There was also a JFL in Chicago this year and Louis CK appeared at all three.

July 15^th Yuk Yuk’s Comedy Club, Toronto

The only information I initially could find on this was on SetList (this site is data submitted by punters, that attended gigs) until I found this review (on Streets of Toronto) which said:

And then there was London’s Jimmy Carr, a thin white duke in a bespoke suit whose perfect jokes put him right up there with Steven Wright and the late, great Mitch Hedberg. He did two concert-length sets at Yuk Yuk’s and kept the crowd going for 40 minutes without a breather

Date unknown, Hyatt Regency Hotel (interview)

I’ve written a few lines about the Hyatt on this post and, at some time during the Montreal part of the festival, Jimmy was interviewed there, by Idiots of Ants. They had been go-karting the day before, with Ross Noble and start the interview off by showing their injuries. 5 minutes long and well worth a listen,

July 19^th Club Soda, Montreal: The Nasty Show

Jimmy was on the line up alongside Bobby Slayton, Ari Shaffir, Thea Vidale, Kurt Metzger and Mike Wilmot. Review here from Chortle.

As the name implies The Nasty Show is the rougher end of comedy and suits Jimmy’s dark sense of humour.

July 22^nd Massey Hall, Toronto: Britcom

This show (showcasing British talent) was originally supposed to be hosted by John Cleese but he was taken ill and had to back out (this review explains how Lewis Black stood in for him). Another review here from the Independent.

July 24^th Metropolis, Montreal: Louis CK support

Jimmy was the opening act for Louis CK @ Montreal’s Metropolis. Review for the 24^th here. May also have appeared (with Louis) on the 26^th but can’t confirm that one.

Alonzo Bodden Show

And then there is this episode of Alonzo Bodden’s show, released Nov 2009, and apparently featuring Jimmy. Having not seen it – I’m not sure which JFL appearance is meant to be in it (could be from previous years).

It looks like Jimmy was there for the duration and, knowing how much he likes to pack in, I doubt that these were all of his appearances. Plus, he would be seeing other acts and hanging out (I’ve an image of him, for example, socialising in The Hyatt, Montral on the 23^rd).

He then flew from Montreal to LA to record The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien, on the 28^th (see the Comics Comic). Then on to the English Riviera (Torquay) for gigs on August 1^st and 2^nd.
