Montreal’s Just for Laughs (JFL) 2012 ran from July 12th to 29th.
Jimmy had been on his Gagging Order tour and performed UK gigs up to the 20th July (Torquay). Presumably then straight off to Canada, for JFL number 8.
GQ Magazine sent a reporter, to JFL, and that article link has a 15-minute video with tons of people wishing JFL a happy 30th anniversary. It then moves into some of the comics talking about how much they love JFL – with Jimmy at the 14-minute mark. He explains that, with Edinburgh, you put a show together and just go – but JFL is by invitation only and so it feels less competitive because everyone is having a great festival. Whereas, at Edinburgh, there will be someone not selling tickets and people losing money.
Set List, 24th?
This one has proven tricky to prove – apart from this picture (which clearly says Set List).
Hosted, in the Mainline Theatre, by Paul Provenza the blurb said “…front room of this small theater space will become the ultimate late-night JFL hangout when Provenza turns it into an exclusive lounge for comics and their guests”
I’m not sure how many nights Set List ran for, so can only guess as to the date.
The image below is from 2012 but I had downloaded it years ago and now cannot find it again. The ID’d box on the stool is the only other clue.

Altitude Festival, Austria, 26th
Not sure how this worked, logistically, but Jimmy flew to Austria, did a gig and returned to Montreal. Read more here.
Talk of the Fest, 23rd to 26th
Another one that I can’t pin down an exact date for… Talk of the Fest was apparently previously called Bubbling With Laughter and this year it ran from the 23rd to 26th at Club Soda.
Joh Hotz took some pics and the 2nd one shows Jimmy on stage, frustratingly undated. He mentions that the stage design and lighting were especially rigged up for TV cameras and Third Beat magazine said it “will be taped for later broadcast on the Comedy Network”.
Britcom, 26th
As mentioned above – Jimmy performed in Austria (6 hours ahead of Montreal) on the 26th and then flew to Canada to headline this event.
The Britcom shows were at Théâtre Maisonneuve. Showbiz Monkey declared Jimmy to be “one of the funniest comics alive” and I’m assuming the line up all appeared in both shows:
- Jimmy Carr (headline)
- Alun Cochrane
- Stephen K Amos
- Terry Alderton
- Danny Bhoy
- Dave Gorman
- Josh Howie
JFL XXX: The Ultimate Nasty Show, 27th
This year the Nasty Show was broadcast live from Place des Arts, Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier (on Canada’s Juste pour rire TV channel) and hosted by Bob Saget.
- Jimmy Carr
- Jim Norton
- Amy Schumer
- Mike Wilmot
- Mike Ward
Jimmy was given a Production credit – here.
The warm up act was Godfrey (don’t think he was included in the broadcast, which lasts for an hour and 32 minutes).
There’s a really poor copy of the show on YouTube and Jimmy is introduced at 9 minutes 35. I was quite surprised at how tame some of his routine was, considering this was bill as XXX: The Ultimate Nasty Show.
There were write ups in the Montreal Gazette, an interview with Bob in the Globe and Mail and a January 2022 article from Cult Mtl (a couple of days after the passing of Saget) had a quote from the JFL President (Bruce Hills), saying how good Saget had been on this show.
Hope and Cope, 28th
Jimmy was one of the comedians that visited the Hope and Cope Cancer Wellness Centre on the afternoon of the 28th. Read more here.
