October 2016 saw the release of a film: The Comedian’s Guide to Survival. James Buckley (of The Inbetweeners fame) played James Mullinger, a comedian whose career is on the slide. His “day job” results in him being sent to LA to conduct a magazine interview (of great comedians) – reigniting his passion for comedy.
This is actually based on the life of the real James Mullinger and you can read about his life and the background of how the film came about, here.
IMDB have the full cast list, but our area of interest is which comedians did they persuade to make cameo appearances?
- Jimmy Carr
- Gilbert Gottfried
- Omid Djalili
- Luenell
- Mike Wilmot
- Gina Yashere
- Brendon Burns
- Mike Ward
Unfortunately, the film bombed (financially) and there’s a cautionary tale in this story, from someone who invested £10,000. When you look at the ENORMOUS number of people involved (full cast and crew listing) you get an idea of how much money you need to make a film.
It’s a pity it didn’t do well as the plotline is decent enough (I’ve not seen it).
The film still, below, shows Jimmy introducing “James Mullinger” on a stage. Borrowed from James Mullinger’s inside story – which includes more photos.
Available on DVD (see Amazon etc.)
