Jimmy Carr: Wise As He Is Funny Takes On Life

Dominic Holland is an old friend and colleague of the late, great Bob Monkhouse and here he has another old friend, Jimmy Carr, on his podcast: Takes On Life.

I’m not sure when they first met but they certainly were playing the same clubs in 2003.

This podcast was recorded July 5^th 2024 in the dressing room of the Hackney Empire, London (Laughs Funny tour). Always amazes me how relaxed Jimmy is before a gig.

I also tend to prefer podcasts like this where he’s talking to another comedian or comedy writer – because of the deeper perspective that you get on how comedians work.

Some of the topics covered include:

• Stress levels when performing
• Having a bad gig
• Anxiety
• Writing methods
• Clapter
• Joe Wilkinson
• Physicality of being on stage
• NLP
• Going on the Tonight Show for the first time
• Recent appearance on Jimmy Fallon
• Fatherhood
• Mount Rushmore of Comedy
• Louis CK
• Chris Rock – Bigger and Blacker
• Dave Chappelle
• Jerry Seinfeld
• Dyslexia and being in special ed
• Before and Laughter
• Dave Attell
• Jealousy v Envy
• Dying on stage (funny story)
• Neal Brennan keynote speech
• Rosetta Stone of Comedy
• Performing 2 gigs a night
