Back in 2008 the BBC commissioned Jimmy to take over a long running series called by various iterations of Commercial Breakdown.
Previous series:
- 1989 – 1996 – Carrott’s Commercial Breakdown (Jasper Carrott)
- 1997 – Rory McGrath’s Commercial Breakdown
- 1999 – Jo Brand’s Commercial Breakdown
- 2002 – Ruby Wax’s Commercial Breakdown
- 2004 – Jim Davidson’s Commercial Breakdown
- 2006 – Jon Culshaw’s Commercial Breakdown
- 2008 – Commercial Breakdown with Jimmy Carr
Jimmy hosted 8 x 38 minute episodes that were broadcast between June 15th 2008 and August 3rd.
Credits say “Written and presented by Jimmy Carr”.
The writing team (additional material, in the Jimmy era) features some names that went forward to work on other successful UK panel shows.
The concept is to basically cobble together clips of weird and silly TV adverts from around the world and stick a comedian in, as a presenter, in the hope that he/she can wring some comedy out of it.
Which actually works…because this was back when ads were really creative, cheeky and you didn’t mind watching them. They should put this back on TV…
