Katherine Ryan released a book, The Audacity, in 2021 and she writes in it about her first appearance on 8 Out of 10 Cats (in 2012) and other shows that she has made with Jimmy (which can be browsed under this tag).
She says:
I love Jimmy Carr. I’m grateful to him for putting me forward for a bunch of cool projects as much as I admire him for his attitude and work ethic. I think we’re quite similarly minder and I’ve modelled a lot of my career business plan after things I’ve learned by watching him.
And, in relation to making TV shows:
Everyone knows what they’re doing on Jimmy’s TV shows and they run smoothly. If they didn’t, you can bet that Jimmy would give calm, clear instructions on how to make it right. It’s so relaxing to work with a leader like that. Jimmy is a solid booking, every show, every time. He’ll be around forever because he’s undeniable. You’ve got to be undeniable. Professionally, he gives no trouble and takes no shit.
And the person behind the persona:
Jimmy is kind and generous, which I’m not sure many would guess from seeing his act…
…he’s there to make you laugh and I think being a genuinely wonderful person offstage is what gives him the freedom to do that. He’s a fixer. Great in a crisis. Jimmy’s “got a guy” for everything. If his friends are in trouble, Jimmy can be counted on to guide them to a resolution. He’d give them the Gucci shirt off his back.
The most common question that I get asked about Jimmy is whether he ever changes into casual clothes. He does. Just like you and me, he’ll relax and sit chatting in loungewear, playing fetch with his dog in the garden.
All of which is quite a long way of introducing the video below. Filmed on September 24th 2021 this is from a promo Q&A for her book launch and she’s touching on the difference between Jimmy (the person) and his persona.
