In this 2012 Shortlist interview (and this September BBC article) Brandon Flowers talks about the album Battle Born, explaining how Jimmy was the inspiration for the track Deadlines and Commitments.

Brandon and Jimmy were having dinner and chatting about Bruce Springsteen songs and Jimmy had said “the next big breakthrough record that people were going to notice was going to be about the problems of the economy.”

Brandon mentions that they met at Comic Relief and I suspect it was 2007 (see here for details), when Jonathan Ross introduced the band.
