Jimmy has never produced a merchandise range but earlier tours always had glossy, A4 sized tour programmes produced. Copies can often be found on places like eBay and, if you are lucky, you may find an autographed one.
This is about the tour / programme for Gag Reflex. This would eventually be released as the DVD Comedian (here).
This tour began in 2006 with some WIP gigs (Work In Progress) at places like The Hen and Chickens Theatre (seats around 50) on August 5th.
Later that month Gag Reflex was unleashed on the Edinburgh Festival – see here. Six nights in a room of around 2,000 got him nicely warmed up.
This tour was just around the UK (England, Scotland, Wales, Republic of Ireland & Jersey). For details of how many countries he tours (and what counts as a country) see here.
Start / end dates of tours are always hard to be specific about (especially 20 years ago) as sometimes gigs are sold months in advance (under one tour name) and, by the time they roll around, Jimmy has ditched the material and performs material from the next tour.
Gag Reflex continued to be used around August 2007 – and then we move into Repeat Offender.
Programme
What kind of thing do you find in Jimmy’s tour programmes? I’ll add a couple of page images here and list the content.
Obviously, there is the promotional photo shoot and artwork and, back in 2006, the image on the front cover is the one that would be used for posters, print adverts etc.
- Front cover – see below
- Jimmy Carr Live Collection – a promo page for a 2 DVD box set, contained his DVDs Live and Stand Up.
- Introduction – see below. At the time he was ahead of the tech game as he was one of the few comedians with MySpace. Also mentions having meet and greets after shows (no longer happens – see here).
- Live – promo page for Live DVD
- Jokes – page of jokes from the Live DVD
- 8 Out of 10 Cats – banner image of Jimmy, Dave Spikey and Sean Lock. Two thirds of the page is made up of Jokes, from Jimmy’s intros.
- Another whole page of 1 liners
- …Interviews – 5 pages of text with new photos inserted. Notable ones have Jimmy in a white shirt and black jacket with nothing on his lower half
- The Naked Jape – promo page, just showing the book cover. Followed by 2 pages of extracts from the book.
- Stand up – promo page for DVD laid over an image of Jimmy with pink scrawl on his face– see below
- Jokes – page of jokes from the Stand Up DVD
- T Shirt Designs – part of his show ending featured some black t shirts with a fairly familiar slogan on the front – and a punchline on the back. 2 pages. Example “See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil” and the back says “Rohypnol TM”
- XFM – Jimmy says he’s done a radio show with Iain Morris for the past 3 years and that they’ve asked listeners to text in each week. Three pages of silliness.
- Magic eye picture – also included as a poster
- Montage tour posters – from his first 4 tours – see below
