How Neal Feel was a podcast hosted by friends Neal Brennan and Bianca Siavoshy (also known as Bianca Sia). It ran for 114 episodes between April 2019 and June 2021 (see on Apple Podcasts).
Although he had started out as a stand-up Neal had drifted into writing, in the late 90’s, and collaborated with Dave Chappelle on his TV series, Chappelle’s Show.
Late 2022 Jimmy suggested the idea for the format of the Blocks podcast (see Jimmy’s appearances here). I’m not sure how many years the two of them have been friends but possibly from as far back as Montreal 2012, if not longer.
Anyhoo. I was trying to work out how many times Jimmy had been on his friend’s original podcast, How Neal Feel. Considering that this is fairly recent history I can’t believe how hard it’s been to find so little information.
The way things go with this blog I wouldn’t be surprised if this information doesn’t turn up…as soon as I stop looking for it.
2019 Comedian in Cars Getting Coffee
I’m not convinced that Google AI could have done more to make a complete hash of this query. I was trying to follow through a suggestion that Jimmy had guested on a 2019 episode.
What’s wrong with the nonsense below is:
- Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee is a show that is NOTHING to do with either man. It’s Jerry Seinfeld.
- It’s not a podcast – it’s a US TV show.
- I can find no trace of an episode called “A Small Coffee in a Fancy Place”
- Jimmy has never appeared on that show.
- Neal DID appear on it – but in 2018 (S10) which was NOT S11 Ep6
- Bianca had zero involvement
Despite several hours of trying, I couldn’t find any evidence of Jimmy being on Neal’s podcast in 2019 (doesn’t mean it didn’t happen). But he DEF was not on Seinfeld’s show.
2019 07 09 How Neal Feel
This YouTube clip has Neal doing a kind of Jimmy bio-overview for a minute as he introduces a discussion about NPR and a Huff Post article (sent to him by Jimmy). It’s a short mention – but not a guest appearance.
2020 How Neal Feel
All of the How Neal Feel episodes are on Apple Podcasts (here) and 60+ episodes are on YouTube (here).
Jimmy appeared on Episode 69 (published September 2020), without intending to, when he phones Neal during the record and Neal takes the call. See 2:03:10 (here).
I think the record was September 1st 2020 as this is COVID time and Jimmy mentions that he’d played an outdoor arena, the night before, to “people in metal pens”. This would have been at Newcastle’s racecourse on August 31st (see in this post).
Neal refers to him as their “first second time guest” – but I’ve no clue when the first appearance was.
