The South Bank Show Awards are to “reward excellence in everything from opera to pop music and literature to visual art”. Hosted by Melvyn Bragg it had moved from LWT to ITV for broadcasting.

On January 27^th 2006 they were held at The Savoy, London. Nominees are listed here and, despite the BBC mentioning Extras as “heading the line up” the Comedy category was won by Peep Show.
