Back in 2011 Jimmy was on his Laughter Therapy tour and made a 7th appearance at Montreal’s Just For Laughs (JFL) comedy festival. Details and video clip here.
Just as a background – the IMDB database is one that is crowd sourced and, when you submit an update, you have to submit a citation link.
There is an entry, on Jimmy’s entry on the database, for a Juste Pour Rire TV episode (2011) called Laughter Therapy (here).
This implies that the full Laughter Therapy tour show was televised, something I doubt very much (hence the fact check).
This tour material was released on DVD (November 2011) as Being Funny (here) and I’m confident in saying that he wouldn’t have had the full routine televised, even if it was a Canadian only broadcast. As I’ve explained to several people (that have questioned the crowd work clips, that are being released, and asking why he’s not “doing proper comedy” any more) he’s not going to burn the Laughs Funny material because it’s going into his 5th Netflix special (see here) and this is how it’s always been.
The IMDB entry doesn’t show how long this TV show allegedly was and I can find no other mention of it anywhere else. If anyone else can – please let me know.
As mentioned on my JFL 2011 post he had performed 9 nights at Gesù / Le Gesu / The Gesu Theatre (delete name according to preference) and those shows would have been the full Laughter Therapy set as they were tour gigs, advertised under that name, that had been planned to be within the timeframe that he would be in Canada for JFL. Two birds, one stone.
However, with his other (none tour) appearances at JFL events, there was no guarantee as to what routine was performed. Sometimes he would choose darker material (for The Nasty Show, for example) and most years he would write new gags that were specific to Canada and therefore not performed anywhere else in the world.
There was a Gala Show in 2011 (at Le Gesu) that was filmed, but Jimmy’s clip is only just over 6 minutes out of what is normally at least a 90-minute tour show.
Whatever this “Laughter Therapy” episode was (assuming it actually happened as there isn’t a specific date, on IMDB) I just can’t imagine it would be the full tour routine. Plus, I’d also be surprised if it was broadcast under the name Laughter Therapy, bearing in mind a DVD release of that name was imminent.
