On the afternoon of October 30^th 2018 Jimmy was recording another episode of the Museum of Curiosity radio show for BBC R4 (previous episodes are detailed here).

Created in 2008 by John Lloyd (the creator of QI, Blackadder and Spitting Image, amongst others) John was the host, acting as the head of a fictional museum, and the guests had to choose something to donate to it. The museum’s mission statement is to hold everything curious in the universe, with the audio only format giving them the opportunity to choose anything at all.

Broadcast at 8am on Christmas day 2018 this All-Star Special brought back 4 of the curators: Jimmy Carr (S5), Jo Brand (S10), Sally Phillips (S12) and Lee Mack (S13).

Billed as the Annual Stock Take this was Meeting Eighty and the MOC recordings are available on Amazon Audible and also some podcast providers.

The BCG reported that the items they submitted were:

• Lee Mack: brings in boredom, because we now have so much stuff to keep us entertained, we no longer daydream and that hampers our imaginations.
• Sally Phillips: donates things that are so mediocre that they won’t be remembered otherwise. She would also like to celebrate the attempt to make these mediocre things. Examples include poor quality drawings of the panel found online.
• Jo Brand: offers up the smell of an estate agent, to go with the smell of coffee which is also in her gallery. This is connected to people’s efforts to make ourselves seem better than we actually are.
• Jimmy Carr: provides laughter.

The BCG details add that “According to a Now Magazine survey in 2014, Jimmy has the second-most annoying laugh. First on the list was Cameron Diaz”. I’ve searched pretty extensively and this appears to possibly not be true as it seems to be something that may have originated from a forum discussion.

As you can see – there was an audience present and this was recorded at BBC Radio Theatre, Broadcasting House, Portland Place, London, W1A 1AA, rather than in a studio.
