There are a couple of posts (here) relating to Jimmy appearing at the magnificent Lawrence Batley Theatre, Queen’s Square, Queen Street, Huddersfield, HD1 2SP (here).

But there was an even earlier appearance, at this venue, on February 17^th 2000.

The Huddersfield Daily Express (British Newspaper Archives) had a review for a “double dose of silly but strictly scripted stand-up” in the cellar comedy club.

I’m not entirely sure whether Jenny was a fan of either comedian:

Puerile one liners, cute and perfectly formed were 10 a penny, bouncing all over the place. In terms of verbal traffic, though, it was a one-way street, with no real banter between the comics and their captors.

She apparently got tired of the stream of one liners, which included this one from Jimmy:

I remember the time I hid my asthmatic friend’s Ventolin – what a wheeze.

The headliner was the Canadian, Stewart Francis, and it appears his “relaxation-tape delivery” was more to the reviewer’s taste. Or perhaps she just preferred his jokes.

Regardless – I just love reading about these old gigs.

Background

At this stage of his career Jimmy had been performing above pubs and “going on stage after strippers” (his words) so there was no tour name.

He was now starting to get more regular bookings and was appearing more in dedicated comedy clubs and slightly bigger rooms.
