Jimmy’s first Royal Variety Performance was 2nd December 2002. It was at London’s Hammersmith Apollo (now called Eventim Apollo) and in the presence of the Prince of Wales (now King Charles III).
This was a huge break for him as the Apollo has a capacity of around 3,600 and it’s estimated that tge televised show had a peak of 8.9m viewers, on the BBC.
To put it into career context, he was still very much playing Pubs and Clubs that were under 1000 seats. Although he was on the up as he’d been on Conan O’Brien in March, to Montreal in July and had his first solo show at Edinburgh in August.
