Jimmy’s 5th DVD was the 2009 special, Telling Jokes, released on 2nd November. The tour was called Joke Technician, recorded once again at London’s Bloomsbury Theatre and the actual show lasts a little over 90 minutes.
Three shows were recorded, on May 1st-3rd 2009 (see UKTW archive here).
- Written and performed by Jimmy Carr
- Associate Producer – Jimmy Carr
- Director – Tristram Shapeero
- Producer – Sam Pinnell
- Executive Producers – Damon Beesley and Iain Morris
Bonus content :
- Anti-social networking – a Twitter segment (as it was in 2009). Back then Jimmy had more time to be active on social media and this is him reading out some of his tweets, over the top of images from the tour programme. See the bottom of this post…
- Bonus Stand up material – this isn’t in the version embedded below as it had already been posted here. A little over 10 minutes and contains what you might think of as some bloopers. With a make-up artist appearing (coming on stage to de-shine his face) and a cameraman surprising Jimmy, when he notices him lurking behind him.
- Comedy Central Special – this isn’t on Jimmy’s YouTube channel, you would assume for copyright reasons. Jimmy recorded “Comedy Central Presents…” shows in 2005 and 2009 and they are shown on UK TV fairly regularly (on Comedy Central).
Extended and uncut version (the full show plus Anti-social networking) is currently not available on Jimmy’s YouTube channel – although there is the Bonus Stand up material.
Uncut versions of some of Jimmy’s DVD releases are available, here, on Jimmy’s YouTube channel. For info on other DVDs (either on YouTube or streaming) see on Tour Details page – here.
This show has been released as Trigger Warning on Amazon Prime, Apple TV etc. (here).
800lb Gorilla have the rights to sell audio download versions of Jimmy’s DVDs and specials. See posts here.

Main Menu
The Main Menu has Can’t Stop by the Red Hot Chili Peppers playing over a slightly simplistic layout (compared to other discs) where the 2 larger bubbles are rotating and showing different images from the photoshoot for the tour programme.
Clicking on these bubbles reveal “easter eggs” of pop-up jokes, which are duplicates of the ones in the Twitter Diary.

Extras
Selecting Extras takes you to this second level menu.

Jimmy’s Twitter Diary / Anti-Social Networking
Jimmy’s channel has uploaded this part of the DVD…and, if you haven’t the time to watch it, below the video are a couple of examples of the tweets / imagery from this section of the DVD.
This tour’s programme / DVD had some very imaginative photographs, with Jimmy playing dress-up. Anyone like a man in uniform??
Some of the tweets don’t always make much sense, after so many years. Especially as some are part of a thread about “reverse inventing” where it seems like other Twitter users are coming up with ideas and Jimmy is building on that.
For an example of “reverse inventing” see the Contact Lenses one below.
