December 17^th 2009 was a Christmas Show for the SAS in Hereford.

Performers were:

• Jim Davidson OBE
• Jimmy Carr
• Jethro

This was after Jimmy had been in trouble (with the press) for his Paralympics joke (which he’d written after visiting amputee service men at Headley Court.

This 16^th December Chortle article (referring to another gig, performed at Selly Oak) was a little bit sneery about Jim Davidson sticking up for Jimmy, over his joke (ref the heading “with friends like these”). Jim Ds comedy may have fallen out of favour now, but he was enormously popular, at one time. More importantly he is a massive supporter of our Troops and a tireless fundraiser…you can’t argue with that.

Chortle were reporting on Jim’s interview with Reading Post and he had said:

‘Jimmy Carr was one of the first to visit the Headley Court Rehabilitation Centre and I have just done a show with him at Selly Oak [another such centre]

‘He asks no fee and no publicity – that’s a lot more to be said than for some.

‘The joke is not about having a lack of respect; it’s about healing the pain with humour – some of it black – as the troops like it that way.

‘Things said on stage with massive affection sometimes read badly in black and white.

‘The irony is that particular joke highlights the supreme character of these heroes that would be more likely to train for the 2012 Olympics than sit nursing their wounds.’
